Because what decides a tree job is rarely the tree. It is the access, the ground, what is underneath it and how close a chipper can get. Two trees that look identical from the street can be a full day apart in work once somebody has stood under them. Quoting blind means either padding the number to cover the unknowns or finding out on the day. Neither is fair to you.

We would much rather you were. The estimate is a conversation about what you want the property to look like afterwards, not just a look at a tree, and the useful version of it happens with you standing there. It takes 20 to 30 minutes and it is free. Ideally everybody whose approval the job needs is there too, so nothing has to be relayed secondhand later.

The decision, not the cutting. Plenty of people can take a tree apart safely. Far fewer can tell you whether it needs taking apart at all, what a particular cut will make the tree do in five years, or whether the thing frightening you is a real defect or just a big tree behaving normally. That judgement happens at the estimate, before any money is spent, and it is where the certification earns itself.

Because it makes the tree more dangerous, not less. Cutting the head off a conifer leaves a large wound that decays, and the tree answers with a crowd of shoots attached to the outside of old wood rather than into it. Within a few years the view is closed again, the regrowth is denser than the original crown, and the parts holding it up are the parts most likely to fail. You have bought three summers and a worse tree.

That is your call and we ask at the estimate. Brush goes through the chipper. The trunk and limbs can be cut into rounds and stacked where you want them for firewood, left in longer lengths, or hauled off entirely. Chip leaves with us by default, but if you want it for beds or paths we will blow it into a pile wherever you point. Hauling is its own line so you are choosing rather than paying for it by default.

Ask any contractor for theirs before you let them near your property, and if they hesitate, that is your answer. We would rather you checked ours than took our word for it.

We do not top trees. On a removal we will grind the stump out if you want it, but we do not book stump grinding as a job on its own. We do not spray anything, so no pest treatment and no feeding. We do not quote over the phone or from photographs. And we do not tell you a tree has to come out when it does not, which is the one that costs us money and is the reason people call us back.
